Adam Basanta

Adam Basanta is a composer and sound-artist, writing both acoustic and electroacoustic music. He holds a BFA from Simon Fraser University, studying with Barry Truax and Arne Eigenfeldt, and is currently an MA candidate at Concordia University, supervised by Sandeep Bhagwati. Particular interests include semiotic and ecological approaches to electroacoustic composition, music cognition and perception, mixed music, binaural photography, sound installations and found sound environments.

He has collaborated with choreographers Henry Daniel, Troika Ranch (NY/Berlin), and Kinesis Dance (Vancouver). His compositions have been performed at concerts, conferences and festivals throughout North America, Europe, Asia and the UK.

His electroacoustic works have won the 1st prize in the student category of Métamorphoses 2010 (Musiques et Recherches, Belgium), 1st prize at the VII International Contest of Electroacoustic Miniatures 2009 (Andalucia, Spain), 2nd and 3rd prizes at the SOCAN Foundation Awards for Young Composers (Canada, Hugh Le Caine category, 2010 and 2008 respectively), and 2nd prize in JTTP 2010 competition (Canada).
